Disadvantages of employing part-time staff

Disadvantages of employing part-time staff
- More staff to manage
- Harder to communicate with staff as it may be difficult to meet
- Motivation may be lower as the worker ay feel less committed
- Job security may be lower / also less legal rights in some countries.
Permanent VS Temporary Contracts
A permanent contract can be ended for three reasons
- The employee is fired
- The employee decides to resign (and gives the appropriate notice)
- The employee is made redundant. In this case a redundancy payment will nearly
always have to be paid.
A temporary contract ends when the time expires eg a one year fixed term contract. No redundancy will have to be paid.So this can be an advantage to a business although the disadvantages of part-time employment can apply.
